I gotta post something here. I absolutely can not fucking BELIEVE IT!! Holy shit, Robert Horry has got to be one of the greatest clutch players to ever play, no doubt! These last three hours, and these last couple days have just been terrible for me. I was feeling physically ill during large stretches of today's game. Just to give you some background, here you go. I felt after Game 2 the Lakers would come out in Game 3 and really take it to the Kings to show them who was boss. Instead they fell behind by 27 and ended up losing by double digits. So then I had a lot of doubts about the Lakers (still do, by the way). I was thinking that if they couldn't come out strong in Game 4, they were done. Well they came out about as bad as possible in Game 4, they were down by 20 after the first quarter, and the Kings stretched that lead up to 24 in the second quarter. I figured it was Game 3 all over again, and the Lakers were finished, down 1-3, case closed. But of course I kept watching because there was a lot of time left, and LA started to slowly chip away at the lead. LA closed it to 7 at one point in the third, and then got it down to 4 a couple times in the 4th, but the Kings kept fighting back and pushing it back to 8 or 9. In the last 3 minutes LA finally started getting closer, Shaq was hitting all of his free throws, Kobe was making some jumpers in the lane, Horry hit a three down the stretch; but the Kings kept scoring also. LA cut it to 3 then Shaq went to the line for two free throws and hit them both. LA fouled Vlade who only hit one of two, and it was LA's ball down 2 with 11 seconds left. On the final possession Kobe drove in and missed a shot he normally makes, Shaq got the rebound and missed an almost gimme putback, so Vlade got a hand on that rebound and just swatted it towards the other end...
...but Robert Horry was waiting out at the top of the three point circle, and he grabbed the ball and put up a three point shot with less than a second on the clock. The buzzer sounded as the ball was in the air, so this was it right here. AND HORRY NAILED IT!!! Nothing but net! The crowd went nuts, the team swarmed on Horry, and this series is 2-2 baby! Horry's three point shot was the first lead the Lakers had had since it was 2-0 in the opening minute of the first quarter, so you can see what an incredible win it was. LA tied their own NBA record for largest deficit after the first quarter where the team came back to win.
This series is a LONG way from over. I know Horry got that shot and it was incredible, but the reality is that the Kings have solidly been in control of the last three games, and of the remaining three games two are in Sacramento (widely considered the hardest place for a road team to win). LA better get their shit together for Game 5. God, how I DREAM of LA coming back here for Game 6 up 3-2! Please let the Lakers get past this round!
Posted by Yams at May 26, 2002 05:41 PMHI MY NAME IS DORA AND. I AM A VERY BIG FAN OF ROBERT HORRY AND I THINK THAT HIM GOING TO THE SPURS WAS NOT A GOOD IDEA. I WAS SHOCKED I WOULD LOVE IT IF HE WOULD GO BACK TO THE LAKERS, BUT IM NOT SURE THATS POSSIBLE.
Posted by: DORA at December 4, 2003 06:41 PMThe Lakers really don't need Horry this year, so even though I loved him when he was with the Lakers, he just wasn't gonna be worth the money that he got ($5 million this year). Horry was mainly best at the end of the game, but with Malone on the team, Horry wouldn't have been out there in crunch time anyway. The upside is that now Slava Medvedenko will get more playing time and get a chance to develop.
Posted by: Yams at December 4, 2003 09:33 PMrobert horry is the most under rated player in the nba he is a hall of fame player in my book
Posted by: brent bowers at January 16, 2004 09:31 PMLakers management fucked up badly, they didn't sign Horry back, Horry was very demanded everywhere, I don't blame him, I blame the Lakers.
Posted by: Antoine at January 20, 2004 07:30 AMHorry is making $5 million this year with the Spurs when he is worth nowhere near that much. LA made the right choice by letting him walk for that money. With Karl Malone on the team, LA didn't need Horry. Horry's only real value was come crunch time (Malone is good in crunch time as well), but with Malone on the team, Horry would have been riding the bench down the stretch in close games. Horry had no real use on the Lakers anymore after they signed Malone. Besides, with Horry gone it gives the younger Lakers (Slava, Cook and Sampson) a time to develop and get some playing time. I liked Horry, but from a business and basketball standpoint it was not a bad thing that he left the Lakers. Also, going to the Spurs doesn't make them any better since in crunch time you're going to see Tim Duncan and Malik Rose in there, not Rober Horry.
