I came across this article today, and immediately thought of John Titor's predictions, which as you may recall I discussed here about a month ago. For anyone who may have forgotten about John Titor, he was the supposed time traveler from the future who said that in 2004 a civil war would break out in the US, leading to a nuclear war in the middle east in 2005, and eventually a world wide nuclear war (World War III) in 2015. As crazy as that probably sounds, if you read the stuff about him out there, it sounds eerily plausible, especially in light of some of the things that have happened since he made his "predictions" in 2000. Anyway, believe it if you want, as I said in my entry about him, at the very least it's an entertaining read. Unless, of course, you put any stock in it, then it is downright frightening. Anyway, seeing stuff like the following really makes you wonder when you compare it to what Titor said would happen this year:
- In Nov. 2003, you might recall, Gen. Tommy Franks told Cigar Aficionado magazine that a major terrorist attack (even one that occurred elsewhere in the Western world), would likely result in a suspension of the U.S. Constitution and the installation of a military form of government. "[A] terrorist, massive, casualty-producing event somewhere in the Western world -- it may be in the United States of America -- [would cause] our population to question our own Constitution and to begin to militarize our country in order to avoid a repeat of another mass, casualty-producing event," he said.
And then later in the article there is this quote:
- Sean Hannity twisted things further. "If we are attacked before our election like Spain was, I am not so sure that we should go ahead with the election," he reportedly said. "We had better make plans now because it’s going to happen."
It definitely makes you worry, really even if you remove John Titor from the whole thing. Would the presidential election this year be suspended if we suffered another terrorist attack? What would the US citizenry think of that if it happened?

I was just thinking about John Titor's predictions this morning while I was commuting to work. *sigh*

I find that I frequently think of him and his predictions. Anytime anything like this comes up, I can't help but immediately think of Titor. The worst for me was the day that I read all that stuff the first time though. For the rest of the day as I was driving around I kept looking at everything thinking "Is this the last year of my life that the world will ever be like this again?" and "If Titor is right, everything I see will be levelled in about 12 years." Depressing :sad

I try not to obsess too much about his predictions, because it's so easy to get caught up by them and second-guess one's life based on them.
That being said, if I had the means, I'd move to Santa Barbara. Not just for the distance away from L.A., but also the great beach weather, and of course, the hot chicas. :D

My understanding is that rent and prices of homes in SB is ridiculously high because they are trying to keep the community up there from growing geographically, so there are less places to live for the multitudes of people who flock there. It is nice up there though, although I gotta say, after reading Titor's stuff it makes me really wanna go live in the middle of nowhere in Alaska or something :lol

I'm fine with living near UC Santa Barbara (my 'ol stomping grounds) in either Isla Vista or Goleta. See, I've given this quite a bit of thought. ^_^

because i am a sci-fi freak, after reading your entry about Jon Titor and this one. i decided to do a little research into the possibilities of Jon Titor not being a hoax. i even went so far as to watch an old video (NOSTRADAMUS) i have about nostradamus and his predictions. the video was produced in 1978 or 1975. on it they describe in detail nostradamus' predictions of the attack on new york on 09.11.01. however, in the video, events are deciphered to take place in the 80's and 90's, based on astrological events that nostradamus also predicts. the video has scientists confirming these astrological events. only they go with the earliest times these astro-events are calculated to occur from the videos production. the crazy thing about this is that these events have now happened. only a little later than were deciphered on the tape. planetary alignments and solar eclipses are reoccuring events. did those same astro-events take place beyond the tapes speculation?
nostradamus predicts WWWIII will last 27 years and that it will be started by the anti-christ who will come from persia (video intrepreted as iran, but could be the mid-east) and would be of the pagan (intrepreted as muslim) religion. if you go by JT's prediction that WWWIII ends in the year 2015 that would mean that it began in 1988. so i checked out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988 and found out that in december of 1988 Al-Qaida was formed by Osama bin Laden, who declares a holywar on the west.
some other really interesting events took place that year too:
the irancontra affair
& Iran Air Flight 655
"This accident caused an international incident with the Iranian president vowing revenge on America a few days later. "
JT also predicts the nukes to come from russia. according to the tape, russia has the 5th largest muslim population.
nostradamus predicts that spain would be vexed:
events still to come: nostradamus predicts that europe will be invaded by persia/mid-east on the new year. the invasion will come by sea to italy first. rome will be nuked and a great earthquake will take place in may of the year before. what year? i'm sure gonna sleep a lot better in june if we don't have a quake next month.
or is JT a hoax... nostradamus never predicted that russia will nuke the u.s. but, he does predict that the u.s. and russia will defeat the anti-christ together. and a bunch of other really horrible shit too. either way i hope neither one of them is right.
