Lakers Beat Spurs For 3rd Time

Well it's been nothing but payback for the Lakers this year against the San Antonio Spurs. Last year LA was swept by the Spurs in the regular season and eliminated by them in the playoffs 4 games to 2. This year, however, the Lakers have already played the Spurs three times, and have won all three of them. This is important because the Lakers already own the first tiebreaker against the Spurs for playoff seedings (should the two teams finish the year with the same records), because the Lakers only play the Spurs one more time during the regular season (and that's not till April). What was great about this game tonight was that it was in San Antonio (where LA is now 2-0 this year), and that the Spurs were at full strength tonight, which they were not when the Lakers were in San Antonio last time (which naturally prompted a lot of whining from Spurs fans that LA only won cause the Spurs weren't at full strength). Also tonight, the Lakers overcame a 15 point first-half defecit and rallied to win, executing down the stretch and just proving they had more grit and more heart when the game was on the line. Believe me, as a Laker fan, there is not much that would please me more right now than seeing the Lakers beat the Spurs like they did tonight. By losing tonight, the Spurs became the first team in the entire Western Conference to get to 10 losses, and the Spurs are now not only last in their division, but are also below .500 at 9-10. San Antonio also has a 4 game losing streak right now, while LA has a 7 game winning streak and the best record in the league (not to mention being the only elite team in the Western Conference with a winning record on the road). Tomorrow night LA continues against the Mavericks in Dallas, and that should be a good game. Sorry Spurs, you just can't beat the Lakers this year it looks like

Will,

Was this game worth missing the advance preview screening of "The Last Samurai" for? Any regrets?

kino:

dude
was that 8 against 5. 8 being the spurs+refs.
dont matter we still beat them. did you notice malone telling payton(i think it was around 4th)
after payton was called for a bail out foul on that overated frenchie, malone said something forget about it...were not getting any calls. big ups on malone. thats my nigga=)
hey its ok for me to say that coz we flipz are the blk asian....big and hung....like shaq=) (little inside joke there for you wil)

I wouldn't miss the advance screening. I've heard nothing but positive buzz about The Last Samurai.

Yams:

Cookie, yes it was worth it. I can't ever get enough of watching the Lakers beat the Spurs

Kino, the Lakers never get the calls against the Spurs, you just have to expect that, especially on the road. Also, you're a sicko, quit thinking about how much the Lakers players are packing

Koga, wanna hear something bad about "The Last Samurai"? Try this on:

Of course, there's the bullshit romance between Nathan(Tom Cruise) and Taka (Koyuki), even though he killed her husband. I can picture her thought process (since Taka doesn't have many lines): ìYou killed my husband, ruined the lives of my children, and threatened to lead my people and their beloved, ancient ways of life into extinction, but since you rank pretty high on the list in the Entertainment Weekly Power Issue, I guess I'll spread 'em anyway.î LINK

Or how about this one:

(Tom) Cruise doesn't help matters much. It's a pompous performance puffed up with self-regard. The rare occasions he bends his ramrod-straight line-readings to allow for a touch of humor feel awkward and out of place, as if phoned in from a better picture.

The incoherent script is a quagmire. In one scene the evil emperor sends out ninja death squads, and in the next he wants to sit down and have lunch. Everything is so arbitrary, so governed by the needs of the plot, even the movie's trumped-up "sacrifices" feel stupid and pointless...

The Last Samurai is crap. But damn, Tom's hair looks good. LINK

The Last Samurai has a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 52 rating at MetaCritic.

Honey, on the other hand, has a 25% rating at RT: "Not terrible, just lazy."

Yams:

Minority Report scored a 92% on the Tomatometer, yet that movie was horribly mediocre at best (I thought it was pretty bad myself, actually), so you can't always trust the Tomatometer when it comes to Tom Cruise movies.

"What about now?"

::..LeSLiE..:::

First of all, why are you bragging about the lakers beating the spurs?... i say you keep your mouth shut till the lakers vs spurs playoff game.. because that is where it really counts...oh yeah how bout that the spurs beat one of the best teams in the nba (Pacers)... whos the best?????...lOl... lakers dont have a chance without malone and shaq... they cant take the heat without them!... Spurs All The Way !!!! *Just remember the crown is still on their heads buddy ................

Yams:

In case you didn't notice, while the Lakers were demolishing your Spurs all three times this year, they also absolutely kicked the ever-living shit out of those same Pacers. Shaq and Malone will be back by the All-Star break, well before the Lakers have to play your godawful team again. The Spurs only won last year cause everyone they played against had star players who were hurt (Stephon Marbury of Phoenix, Kobe Bryant and Rick Fox of the Lakers, Dirk Nowitzki of the Mavs, Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin of the Nets), and because the refs for whatever reason saw fit to give the Spurs an average of 9 extra free throw attempts per game (an NBA playoff record). The Spurs are accidental champs and they'll be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs this year, just like last time they tried to defend a "championship".

Here's a trivia question for you: who is the only NBA champion to NOT repeat as champ since 1987? The answer: your Sham An-phoney-o Spurs!

The Spurs only hope is that they'll bore the Lakers to sleep (like they did with the entire TV viewing audience last year in the Finals) and maybe LA will sleepwalk into a loss. Too bad for you that didn't happen last time the Spurs were in LA when the Lakers were up by over 30 points in the 3rd quarter and rested their starters the whole 4th quarter. You remember, when Malone got a triple-double against Duncan and Timmy "The Tinman" could only muster 11 points against Malone? Your team stinks, you should just abandon all hope now.
