Happy Halloween everyone! I'm back with your weekly dose of terrible, and while I was trying to think of something Halloween-themed for this week's What's More Terrible, I got stuck, so instead I figured I'd just put up a couple chilling images from some of my favorite horror movies and wanted to see if you guys could name what movies they are from (so it's kind of like a contest in addition to this week's dose of terrible). Anyway, first, let's make with the terrible:
Having Hollywood remake an all-time classic like "Casablanca" or "Citizen Kane"
or
Having Hollywood make a sequel to an all-time classic like "Casablanca" or "Citizen Kane"
?
I want you to note that this is not limited to the films "Casablanca" or "Citizen Kane", but rather you can insert your own favorite films here and think of it that way. Would it be more terrible for them to remake your all time favorite film or for them to make a sequel to it? Note that this should generally apply to films that are clearly intended as standalone films, and not ones that were made with a sequel in mind, cause otherwise that's no fun for this question
Ok, now for the scary images. See if you can tell me what scary movies the following stills are from:
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| 5 | 6 | 7 |

I'd say "Having Hollywood make a sequel to an all-time classic like 'Casablanca' or 'Citizen Kane'" is worse. FWIW, book sequels came out for 'Casablanca' as well as 'Gone With the Wind.'
Which reminds me, Disney's trend of sequelitis is really amusing, as they've made sequels to their classics like Cinderella, The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmations, and The Little Mermaid, among others, in a pathetic attempt to milk more money out of their customer base.
Ugh, I think I only know only one of these movies (#6).

You're really going off with my smilies there, Mr. Nuts
As for not knowing those images, man you gotta stop watching Buffy re-runs and start watching some good, old-fashioned horror movies. Get that Whedon out of your system!

Excellent "Terrible" this week!! Kudos (no, not the candy bar, but the lame yuppyy buzzword). This one requires some serious thought, but I think I would tend to lean toward the remake of the classic being more terrible. Although doing a sequel to classics (a la "The Two Jakes") usually falls flat on it's face, it does require a little more thought than simply a flat out bad idea. The whole point of something being a classic is that, in my mind, it should never be redone. On a personal note, somehow when someone says they want to remake a classic film, like Casablanca for instance, doesn't that give you a strong indication as to what creative inclinations, or lack of, that those people have?
Now for the spookfest images. I'm totally going on my own here, and not using the internet (like other might...Cookie???). I'm not a total horror guy, but here goes:
1.)some Dario Argenta film?
2.)Invasion of the Body Snatcher (remake)
3.)Some Dracula film
4.)The Exorcist
5.)The Shining
6.)The Exorcist
7.)Critters (fav line: "We're here for the crites."

I should have clarified something about #3 on the scary images: it is NOT a black and white film. The film is in color, but the screen capture that I got there (since I don't have any kind of equipment to do them myself, I have to look for them online) just happens to be in black and white. I realized people may assume it's a rather old film because that shot is in black and white, so I'm sorry about that. We now return you to terrible, already in progress.

It's Mozilla, nothing I can do about it. Or as Kyle Reese said in Terminator: "Hey I didn't build the fucking thing!" God I love that line

John:
1. Go to this URL.
2. Click on a smiley image.
3. Copy the URL shown for that smiley.
4. In the comments window, paste that URL, surrounding it with an tag (example: )

Ok, sorry I waited all weekend to give the answers here, but I was kinda busy. Anyway, this was a tough one because while I can think of numerous bad examples of both kinds ("Psycho", "Get Carter", all the Halloween sequels, etc...), I can also think of good examples of both kinds: John Carpenter's remake of "The Thing" and "The Color of Money". The answer is that a remake is more terrible. The reason is because a sequel clearly distinguishes itself from the original and if it is awful then people don't really associate it too much with the original (see last week's What's More Terrible). However, when people remake a film, over the course of time it can be somewhat forgotten that there was an original, especially with the way Hollywood markets movies these days. Bad sequels are almost expected. They are a dime a dozen, but remakes are a much rarer and less creative. Someone wanting to take a great movie and try to add to it by continuing the story or seeing more from the characters is more forgivable than someone taking a great movie they really enjoy and just trying to make it again but "better". Anyway, that's how I see it.
Now the answers to the horror stills:
1.) "The Trilogy of Terror"
2.) "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers"
3.) "Fright Night"
4.) "The Exorcist"
5.) "The Shining"
6.) "The Exorcist"
7.) "Critters"
